About Me and My Art

I'm a Senior at Harpeth Hall and I've been in art since 5th grade. Taking Media Arts I and II with Mr. Croker and his amazing editing skills inspired much my portfolio as we learned how to edit through headshots, movie posters, and wordplay. I aim to bring the history of the portrait to light with Photoshop, adding allusions to the subject's life. My time in AP Art History is yet another inspiration for my art. Mr. Womack has taught me about the value of Art History, and I wanted to emphasize it in my art. In order to show the history of the painting, I research each work by diving into the subject and the artist's life as well as the history of the time they lived in. I take pictures of my friends in the Harpeth Hall studio and then transfer their faces into the paintings using photoshop. I then create or edit the background and body of the subject, transforming the drab colors into bright ones that reflect the mood and story behind the art. I balance out the colors of my friends faces and heavily edit to achieve a skin tone that matches the original painting. By bringing bright colors and strong emotion into these works, I am modernizing it and making it consumable for modern audience's understanding and relatability. Throughout the year I have progressed from simply editing the painting as it is from cutting the subject up, collaging, or removing background to make it distinct from the painting. I have learned significantly more about art history from my portfolio and about editing, each time I learn something new in photoshop I apply it to my next pieces to make it better than the last.
